It's always something, isn't it?

I haven't forgotten about my blog. In fact, I teach blogging as part of my job and I'm regularly reminded that I haven't been blogging. And I miss the accountability. In my last post, I talked about getting out of debt by the time I turn 30 and that's a big goal.

Goals aren't accomplished alone.

So here I am. I'm back! And I'm accountable to this blog. Please help me! This goal is so consuming and important to me that I'm learning I can't do it alone.

Dreams don't come true until you write them down and they become goals - so I'm keeping them written down and I will be held accountable. For a while recently, I thought that I should just be doing instead of writing about it, which explains a big part of my absence. But writing about it not only helps me mark my progress on a regular basis but it holds me accountable for these big goals of mine.

Right after my last post where I was gung-ho about paying off debt, I learned the subleaser I had found for my apartment needed to be evicted. Not only was it a huge hassle, but that left me paying 2 rents for a few months. It depleted a lot of money that I was hoping to use for momentum on paying off debt. Thankfully a fantastic subleaser moved in and I was able to make up for some of the losses.

I also miscalculated how much I would need for the trips I took this spring. I went to Vegas and the Carolinas, which were both absolutely fantastic trips but the amount I had saved was hardly enough. Credit cards were definitely used and abused.

Lastly, I had an impromptu opportunity to learn from Gary Keller, the man who built Keller Williams Realty.
Selfies with Gary!
He was teaching Quantum Leap for kids and grandkids of Keller Williams agents and I qualified thanks to my mom. Quantum Leap is basically a 2 day lecture on strategies Gary has used to build the success he has. It covered personal, business, and financial goals and strategies to lead the lives we want, especially in an entrepreneur mindset.

This was incredibly valuable and rewarding, albeit expensive. Not only was there the ticket to the lecture, but airfare, hotel, and I squeezed in time to see my two favorite Texans. I don't regret it and I learned a lot of ways to reach my goals so eventually it will pay off, but initially, it's a blow to the debt goal.

Even so, I set myself a goal of paying off $10,000 of debt every 6 months from now until I turn 30. That's the magic number if I don't rack up any more debt. I started this on my 26th birthday and I even made this 6 month period $11,000 due to my trip to Quantum Leap.

How am I doing so far?

Not bad! I have paid off $4,500 in debt so far and have $6,500 left to go! That's only 1.5 months into it! However, I feel like I've wracked up more debt so I'm spinning my wheels and my net worth still isn't changing.

I can earn extra income and pay off debt until I'm blue in the face, but if I keep spending, I won't be getting anywhere. So this is where my blogging comes back into place. It's time to get more serious about what I'm spending and more importantly, what I'm able to put towards debt.

Please stay with me, cheer me on and hold me accountable! What are your BIG goals? Who wants an accountability partner??

  1. My big goals are to build a savings... I very much live paycheck to paycheck and I know that's how most of America does things these days. But I don't want to live like that. I don't need to be rich but I need to be able to not stress over bills every.single.month. and have enough in my savings that when things pop up it's not such a big deal to me. I KNOW my spending has curbed this goal for a looong time... stupid things too... but I'm ready to cut those things out to start building that savings!
